Frequently Asked Questions

How does your prefab panel system speed up the construction process? Our system significantly reduces onsite build times by pre-assembling the wooden stud frames and exterior sheathing in a controlled workshop environment. We use ZIP System® sheathing and tape, which is much faster and easier to install than traditional housewrap and felt, ultimately saving you money on onsite labor costs and improving overall project cycle times.

Will I need to install housewrap over the panels? No, traditional housewrap is completely eliminated with this system. The ZIP System panels feature a built-in water-resistive barrier that protects against water intrusion. With optimal permeance levels (12-16 perms), the barrier prevents water from getting trapped while still allowing the panels to properly dry out.

Are the barndominium walls energy efficient? Yes, the system is designed for high performance. By sealing the panel seams with ZIP System™ tape, we create a continuous rigid air barrier. This tight enclosure prevents unwanted air leakage, creating a durable building envelope that promotes excellent energy efficiency and increases interior comfort. For even greater efficiency, we offer ZIP System® R-sheathing, which includes a built-in layer of insulation to add thermal resistance in a single panel.

How durable are the prefab walls in extreme weather? Highly durable. The ZIP System® panels are available with a Structural 1 rating, which provides the ultimate shear strength required to meet strict seismic and high-wind zone building codes.

What types of roof coverings are compatible if I use this system for the roof? If you choose to use our sheathing for the roof structure, it acts as an excellent underlayment that stays completely flat. It is compatible with almost any finished roof covering, including metal shingles and panels, asphalt shingles, fiberglass shingles, cedar shingles, and clay or concrete tiles.

What are the specifications of the panels used? The wall and roof panels are typically 4' x 8' and come in three different thickness options to suit your structural needs: 7/16", 1/2", and 5/8".

Is the panel system under warranty? Yes, for your peace of mind, the ZIP System® product line used in our prefab walls is backed by a 30-year Limited Warranty
